1. How to Create an Instagram Post Template

So, what is an Instagram post template, and why would you want to use one? An Instagram post template is a premade template into which you can easily plug images and text to create a well-formatted and designed Instagram post.

Using a template will not only keep your branding consistent, but it will also make creating content much quicker! Let's make one ourselves in just five steps.

Step 1

First, make sure your document is set up correctly, with a size of at least 1080 x 1080 pixels, though it can be larger. However, Instagram posts should always be a ratio of 1:1!A perfect square.

Create a Color Fill layer and set it to a light cream #f4f0ed color.

Step 2

Next, create a rectangle using the Shape tool. The color doesn't matter.

Have it covering up most of the bottom left of the canvas, similar to what you see below.

Clip your post's main image into the rectangle.

Step 3

Type out your post's title and subtitle using the Type Tool. I'm using the font Carolin in its Thin and Regular style Font Weight. Keep the font color black for now.

Step 4

Next, take the Shape Tool and create two rectangles below the main text, setting the color to one of the colors in your post's image. Here it's a deep green#14483c color.

Step 5

Change the title color to the color of the background and the subtitle to the color of the rectangle shapes. And you are done!

I created a second design below using the same font, colors, and shapes.

2. How to Use Instagram Templates

The idea of a template is to allow you to use all of the same layers to create multiple consistent designs. You'll want at least nine different designs! And that's not including Instagram story template designs.

So, while making your own is easy, using a premium template is even easier! Let's take a look at how to use Instagram story templates.

Step 1

Download your template, and drop the files onto your computer. Open the PSD file(s).

Step 2

Sometimes the files will be in multiple different PSDs, or they may be in just one.

If they are located in just one PSD, then they will either be separated into Groups or Artboards. Below we have Artboards.

Select theMove Tool and make sure bothShow Transform Controls and Auto Select are Checked. These options are located in the upper Options bar. Use this to select the different elements easily!

Step 3

Drag, drop, and Clip your images into the gray squares.

Double-click any shapes to change their color, and change any text using the Type Tool.
